We welcome Tom Wescoe as our Construction Manager!
Tom will start as our first-ever fulltime construction manager, effective July 2, 2012. As our exciting new 5-home project on West Seventh Street in Plainfield gets going (we now have final approval from Plainfield Zoning Board), our affiliate needs someone to specifically oversee our construction operation. Tom's extensive building experience will immediately be put to work. In the future, he can be reached at email@example.com or by calling our office number.
Two of our long-time construction volunteers, Wayne Smith and Wyllys Cass, assisted our Executive Director, Rev. Jeremy Montgomery, in our search and selection for a viable candidate. Our selection was based upon two essential responsibilities: the first is the interactions with our volunteers. Habitat for Humanity’s mission revolves around our successful utilization of your volunteer labor to build our homes. The second is the construction tasks and processes - to ensure that construction is done in an efficient, affordable, and quality manner.
Tom lives in High Bridge with his wife, Jeannie. He heard of the position from Doug Wright, who is the Construction Manager at Morris Habitat for Humanity and who worked under Tom in a past job with Pulte Homes. Tom brings to us over 30 years in home construction, project management, and land development. He is currently owner of a business that builds custom carpentry specializing in radiator covers. Past positions include: Area Construction Manager for Pulte Homes, Construction Superintendent for K. Hovnanian Homes, Project Manager for Toll Brothers, and Consultant with Adamsville Maintenance.
What impresses us the most is his "roll up your sleeves" mentality to approaching this opportunity. His calm demeanor and smile demonstrates to us that he is someone who will work in a collaborative environment to help us provide best-in-class experiences for our partner families, groups and volunteers. He took particular interest and expressed enthusiasm in working with our partner families, as they work toward completing their 200-hours of sweat equity. His experience in developing punch-lists for new homeowners as his past homes were completed revealed his excitement in having the opportunity to work with our families prior to closing and purchasing.
On Friday, July 6, 2012 we hosted a Meet & Greet at our offices with our Core Crew, our regular worksite construction volunteers.
