COVID-19 UPDATE: Safety is our priority
At Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plainfield & Middlesex County, our priority is always the health and safety of our community. In light of this challenging situation, we will close our office (with all office staff working remotely) and pause volunteer operations on our construction sites beginning until further notice. We believe it our responsibility to take informed action that will prioritize the collective health and safety of our community; and we are taking this step to protect our staff, volunteers, donors, the families we serve and our community.
This disruption will without doubt affect our many projects, our fundraising, and ultimately, the families we serve. Many of these families are already experiencing vulnerable circumstances that this crisis will likely exacerbate.
We ask that if you had intended to support Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plainfield & Middlesex County, with your time or with a gift, that you make a gift https://www.giveffect.com/checkout/
today to continue to support our neighbors navigate this difficult situation.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed, and we will re-open our office and our site as soon as it is safe to do so.
Please continue to follow recommended health and safety protocols and to seek reliable, up-to-date information on the status of COVID-19 through local resources https://covid19.nj.gov/ that are available to you and your family.

"We are excited to announce our newly formed partnership with the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plainfield & Middlesex County and to join them in giving back to our community in a meaningful and impactful way. It is wonderful to see Habitat for Humanity’s reach growing through their ReStore efforts in a community where many of our guests, our employees and their families reside. Ashley HomeStore has a decade long history with Habitat for Humanity and by donating our unwanted inventory we have been able to recycle our furniture in a way that is not only environmentally responsible but also, purposeful to our community. We hope that our contributions will give families in our community the ability to select from a wider array of design furnishing in order to shape their dream living space at an affordable cost" Will Schafer, President of Ashley HomeStores of Central New Jersey and Staten Island, stated, "Ashley HomeStore is also proud to host this event as the culmination of Habitat for Humanity’s Women’s Build Week. As a company, we know the importance of empowering women and appreciate Habitat’s efforts to do the same.”
By donating unwanted or slightly damaged furniture to ReStores, Ashley HomeStores of Central New Jersey and Staten Island was able to divert 100,000 pounds of items from landfills in 2016.
Rev. Jeremy Montgomery, President and Chief Executive Officer at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plainfield and Middlesex County states, “Donations like these give reusable items and materials a second life and reduce waste in local landfills, while raising more money to build more Habitat homes.”
Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers whose proceeds are used to build Habitat homes locally and around the world. With 850 ReStores in the United States, Habitat raises funds by providing businesses and individuals an opportunity to donate items they no longer need, while also offering them a tax benefit for contributing to a qualified 501(c)3 organization. During Summer 2017, a new ReStore will open on St. Georges Avenue in Avenel, New Jersey.
This event is also in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build 2017. On May 6th, 40 women will join to help in the construction of a home in Plainfield. On May 9th and 11th at Lowe’s in Piscataway, Centennial Square, 1345 Centennial Ave, Piscataway Township, NJ 08854, Lowe’s Heroes volunteers will hold free clinics on painting and sheet rocking from 7-8pm.
